As a proud member of Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC), I'm thrilled to share that our beloved club is undergoing a significant makeover, with a striking new mural taking center stage. The renovation project, which began in May and is set to continue through October, aims to revitalize our club and enhance our members' experience.
At the heart of this transformation is a captivating mural by renowned artist Daniel Garra. This stunning piece of art draws inspiration from the Banderas Bay International Regatta, one of the oldest and most prestigious international sailing events on Mexico's west coast. This regatta, long sponsored by VYC, has been a cornerstone of our club's deep connection to the broader sailing community.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus is credited with the quote, “The only thing that is constant is change”. Those of us who have been members of Vallarta Yacht Club over the years have seen this bit of wisdom validated repeatedly.
So much has changed at VYC in the the past year: our moved from our home of 22 years, movement to a new, much larger space, a change in policy that allowed non-members to use the club's bar and restaurant, and the requirement to build out a space much bigger and more flexible than our previous clubhouse. Through all that, our members have done what they always do - stepped up to make our new space a home for our VYC family.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of VYC founder and friend Dan Green, after a short illness. Dan played a pivotal role in crafting the initial documents that laid the foundation of our club, and for the past two decades, he remained an indispensable figure within our organization. Dan's dedication to VYC, particularly to the VYC Junior Sailing Program, contributed greatly to the success of our organization.
Dan's unwavering presence was a source of immense comfort and support. Whether extending a helping hand, offering insightful advice, or providing moral encouragement, he was always there for us.
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable individual whose impact on VYC and all who knew him will endure.
Fair winds, Dan.
The family has asked that donations be made to Vallarta Sailing Foundation.
At Vallarta Yacht Club, we are very busy getting ready for WesMex and are looking forward to seeing you all here. Beginning with its inaugural event in February 2006, the WesMex Regatta has earned the reputation of the premier small boat regatta of Banderas Bay. It is one of the most important youth sailing events of the year in all of Mexico and is one of two “Signature Regattas” of the Vallarta Yacht Club. Of course, Banderas Bay Regatta is the other Signature Event but that will be another story.
The International WesMex Regatta is hosted by Vallarta Yacht Club and sanctioned by the Mexico Sailing Federation, the Mexico Optimist Class Association (AMVCO), the ILCA Mexico Class Association and the iQFoil Class. The great conditions and convenient venue as well as our welcoming club members and staff, make WesMex everyone's favorite event in Mexico. For 2023, this one design regatta is a qualifier for young sailors from all over Mexico to advance to the 2023 Optimist North Americans, the 2023 Optimist World Championship, and ILCA Youth World Championships,
If you are interested in a front row seat for the event, let us know. Volunteering is a great way to meet members, make new friends and get involved in one of the most rewarding events of the year.
