In Memory of Bill Noonan
A Life of Adventure, Service, and Gentle Wisdom
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of long-time Vallarta Yacht Club member Bill Noonan, who left us this August. Bill was not only a dedicated member of our club but a beloved friend, mentor, and inspiration to many in the cruising and sailing communities.
Bill and his wife, Cynthia, were fixtures in the sailing world for decades, and their connection to VYC was deep and meaningful. As a member of the VYC board and participant on multiple strategic planning committees, Bill played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the club. His thoughtful leadership and sharp strategic mind left a lasting imprint—one that will continue to be felt in the years to come.
New Faces, New Energy: Say Hello to Bettina & Terry!
Get to know our newest members, Bettina & Terry Johnston, and the journey that brought them to VYC.
We’re delighted to welcome Bettina and Terry Johnston to Vallarta Yacht Club! They became full-time residents of Bahía de Banderas about four years ago, relocating from Kelowna, BC, Canada. With several friends already living in the area, the decision to move was an easy one—and they haven’t looked back.
The Passion for Sailing Has No Age!
This is what our Junior Sailing program is all about!
At just 12 years old, Lucas Jack is chasing a dream: to represent Mexico at the upcoming Optimist South American Championship.
Lucas began sailing at the age of 8, and in just a few short years he has already made waves across some of Mexico’s most iconic sailing waters — from Cancún to Chapala, Acapulco, and Yucatán. His results speak for themselves: a 2nd place finish in the Copa Aarón Sáenz in Acapulco and an impressive 3rd place overall out of 50 competitors in the same event. These triumphs are proof of his commitment, focus, and natural talent.
A Warm Welcome: Maggie & Manuel Join VYC ⚓️
We’re excited to welcome Maggie (Magdalena Garza Orozco Pareja) and Manuel Barrientos Arriaga to Vallarta Yacht Club!
This adventurous duo shares a love of the ocean, whether through sailing, surfing, scuba diving, or simply enjoying life by the sea.
Born in Mexico City, Manuel moved to the coast in search of a life close to the water. In 1997, he established Organic Café, an espresso bar that has become a beloved local spot. When he’s not pulling shots of espresso, you’ll often find him scanning the forecast for the next big swell to surf, or waiting for the calm glassy summer waters perfect for diving. He’s now setting his sights on learning sailing skills with the dream of one day crossing the Mar de Cortez to Baja.
