WHAT'S NEW AT VYC
Bear Bloomquist - From Boat Kid to Club Member
Some members arrive at the Vallarta Yacht Club ready to sail. Some arrive ready to volunteer. And every now and then, one arrives who has truly grown up around the club. Our newest member, Bear Bloomquist, first “stepped” into VYC in January 2003—at just seven months old. Well… he may have crawled in, but the welcome was the same.
From that moment on, Bear was embraced as part of the VYC family. The staff, including Eloy and Rudy, have treated him like one of their own for over two decades, and Bear has always considered the Club a home base—no matter where in the world he happened to be.
Opening Day at VYC Combines Tradition with Fun
Opening Day at Vallarta Yacht Club was pure magic.
The club buzzing again with returning friends, new faces we’re so excited to welcome, and that feeling we all get when the season finally clicks into gear. The hugs, the laughter, the “oh my gosh you’re back!” moments… it all hit just right. From the Junior Sailors’ flag-raising ceremony to the Commodore’s welcome toast, it was a night to remember!
And wow — Bolero Soul brought the vibes. Their live music set the stage for dancing, great rhythms, and that easy flow that kept everyone smiling all night.
Meet Sarah & Danny Hanley: From the Pacific Northwest to Paradise at VYC
The Vallarta Yacht Club community continues to grow with vibrant, well-traveled members who bring rich life experiences and a shared love of the water. Sarah and Danny Hanley—new full-time residents of Puerto Vallarta and enthusiastic recent additions to VYC—are wonderful examples of how life’s winding paths lead people to our friendly little club by the bay.
From Rails to Sails: Welcoming the Meewes to VYC
We’re excited to introduce two wonderful new additions to the VYC community—Blaine and Lisa Meewes! If you haven’t met them yet, you’re in for a treat. Their story is full of adventure, creativity, community spirit, and of course… sailing.
Blaine and Lisa have been retired for 14 years, but “retired” hardly describes their lifestyle. Before retirement, Blaine spent his career as a Locomotive Engineer, running freight trains up and down the Columbia River Gorge and throughout California, Oregon, and Washington—truly a life on the rails. Lisa, equally impressive, dedicated her time to being a homemaker, cooking instructor, and school bus driver—roles that speak to her warmth, talent, and ability to make things happen.
Together they raised two boys and now proudly enjoy being grandparents to three grandchildren.
